Met Gala: Live (Part 3) (2025)

[Keke] I love you more.

Okay, bye.

Oh, hello, Miss Jenner!

It's good to see you, love!

Wonderful.

See my boy Cory here, we go way back, he's family.

Yes.

You guys look lovely tonight.

Please tell me, who designed this look

and how did it come together?

How does it connect to our In America theme?

Well, I'm wearing Tom Ford, Tom Ford.

I threw in a little McQueen, you know,

for a little spice, little Judith Leber.

[Keke] You know?

[Kris] And Lorraine Schwartz emerald earrings.

Wow, okay, this is our first

kind of real big red carpet in a minute,

you know what I mean?

So what was your excitement

or maybe even anxiety about coming out tonight?

I have a little bit of social anxiety right now

being around a lot of people,

and honestly, they said we were gonna

have to wear masks inside

and I was like, Oh my goodness,

I can't wait to get my mask on.

It's the first time in a long time

I've wanted to wear a mask,

but I'm happy that things are feeling better

and so hopeful and inspirational,

and this is a night where everybody comes out,

gets so dressed up and really has fun so,

it'll be an amazing night for everybody.

Yes, well you know you're one of the kid's favorite moms.

You always slaying.

We gotta go to some questions

to see what they're saying tonight.

Okay.

Kris Jenner looking bomb AF.

Okay, we knew that, we knew that.

What else they got for us?

Kris out here glowing OMG.

Okay, Gala 2021.

All day, I'll see you guys inside.

Thank you so much.

And it's the one and the only Mary J. Blige.

Mary, I have to let you know.

The new, on the new Power show,

you are killin' it, girl!

You just said I'm coming to the acting game

and just gon' take all the parts [chuckles].

I took one part [laughs].

One part.

Now please, tell me about this look tonight.

So this is Peter Dundas.

It's inspired by, I guess just being beautiful and fly.

I don't know, it's just--

Well, it's funny you say that, Mar,

because beautiful and fly, I mean,

when I think about American fashion,

you are one of the icons.

You know, your style, the boots, the jeans, the,

I mean, just all of that.

How has fashion changed for you,

the meaning of it, over the years?

I mean, it means a lot more now

because people need it now to feel good.

You know, when you put on something nice, you feel great

and a lot of people haven't been feeling great

because a lot of great things

are not happening in the world.

It's really kinda sad,

but when you put on a,

doesn't matter, it could be Zara or something from Burgoff.

[Keke] Absolutely.

Whatever you can afford, it makes you feel good,

so that's why it means so much, anyway, to me.

I love that.

Now we're at the first Met Gala, first Met Gala in a while,

because last year we didn't have it.

So what did it mean for you to come out tonight?

What was the importance for you?

Oh, the importance is everything

because people are, New York is looking normal again.

There's people outside.

SoHo looks like it used to look.

It's just a beautiful time, you know, to be free.

It's like we all have wings again.

We were restricted, we was in the house,

we was suffering and, people are still suffering,

but this is beautiful that we get to come out

and just say thank God, you know.

[exhales] We get to--

Hopefully inspire, like you said, some creative vibes.

Well, I love you so much, Mary.

I love you too.

I can't wait to see you inside.

And you look so beautiful.

I love you.

So proud of you.

Ilana, let's check out what you got going on.

I'm with the one and only Gabriel Union Wade,

star, I mean you are the matriarch of an amazing family.

What are you wearing tonight?

Who did you create this with?

Iris van Herpen.

And what the inspo behind it. What's it, what?

Change. Change. That's what, in fashion means to me.

It's all about change. It's what the world needs,

fashion needs, and with each step this dress changes.

It's a living, breathing, thing.

And that's what I love. Fourteen hundred man hours.

Fourteen hundred human powered hours.

That's incredible. And tell me about the hair and makeup

tonight. You look so beautiful.

The hair is by Larry Simms, of course.

And makeup by Fiona Styles.

And you've been to several MET Galas in the past,

how are you feeling tonight? Are you feeling chill?

Is this like a, seeing old friends?

I'm excited to see my friends, I've already seen a couple

in the line, and I'm excited to eat. Let's be honest.

Haven't eaten much in the last few days

and I'm excited to chow down.

Well thanks for joining us. You look awesome.

See you in there.

Thanks. Yeah, Jason Rembert, Aliette.

[Keke] We met the other day.

I got my old friend, Chloe Fineman.

We were at the Tory Burch show together.

Now we're old friends. How are you, girl, tonight?

I mean, is this your first, second, third MET Gala?

This is my first.

Oh and you decided to show up in something like this.

Okay, please tell me about this dress, who designed it,

and why, what was this your connection to it.

Well this is our girl, Tory Burch. Yes.

It's inspired by Claire McCardell.

I feel like it's giving some Marilyn moment.

Very modern too at the same time.

It's got a little, oops!

Yes, get that, get that.

Now, it's your first MET Gala, what was your excitement

or maybe even nerves coming to this major event.

You know, just everyone I know is watching and asking,

and then, Megan Fox is right there. I mean, wha, wha, wha?

Ho, ho, ho.

Yes, yes. So is there anybody look that you're most

excited to see, or maybe you're just excited to

see what's inside? 'Cause I don't know what's inside.

I mean, I hear Timothee is inside, and that is what

I call him, America. So I'm very excited to see Timothee.

Oh my gosh, I think I'm right there with you.

I saw him earlier, but I'd like to see him again. Why not?

Yeah, have a little heart to heart.

Right, right. Well you look lovely, you're fabulous.

You look gorgeous.

Thanks girl, stop it. I'm wearing Sergio Hudson.

Giving you a little Diana, inspired. Thank you girl.

Thank you girl.

Well I'll see you inside. Lovely seeing you!

[groovy music]

[groovy music]

[groovy music]

[groovy music]

[Keke] Oh we have the beautiful Megan Fox.

Now Megan, you had the kids gagging last night.

With your look from the VMAs and your little baby daddy

comment, we saw that on the twitter.

Now tonight, you're wearing this amazing dress.

Who designed it and why is this American Fashion to you?

This is Dundas. And it's a good question,

why is it American fashion.

I guess because it's on an American girl.

So that makes it American Fashion.

It's, everything was beaded, one bead at a time.

So many people put in, so much. By the way,

if you were one of the people that worked on this dress,

hours and hours and hours of labor and thank you,

I appreciate you. The craftsmanship is incredible.

Very grateful.

Now Megan, I have to ask you, because you're known as

a sex symbol and I can imagine that can be

an enormous amount of pressure at times.

How has that influenced positively or negatively

your fashion choices?

I feel like I've always leaned it.

I'm not a, afraid to be sexy.

I think, a woman who's intelligent and also knows

how to weaponize her beauty

Come on, Jennifer's Body.

There's nothing more dangerous than that.

There's nothing more powerful than that.

And so, I think, I feel like all women should,

should embrace the fact that as the divine feminine

we have a lot power in that, instead of rejecting it.

I'm happy to embrace it and go for the sex scene.

I love that. Is there anything you're excited about

most with this MET Gala. I mean this is the first time

we're all out and about, really, in a long time.

That's what I said. There's so many people outside.

I was like, it's like a Michael Jackson concert.

I can't believe.

Come on, MJ.

Why are there so many people here?

[Keke laughs]

I guess everybody is so excited to be out of the house.

I'm a little overwhelmed. I don't know

if you're overwhelmed. I'm overwhelmed.

Last night and this night. It's been a lot.

It's very overwhelming, you give me empathic

energy. In past, we're always a little bit overwhelmed.

Well you look fabulous, even while being overwhelmed.

Imma see you inside.

Thanks love. Thank you, as do you.

Gorgeous.

Now my girl, Cece is in the building.

My girl, Cece is in the building.

And I need y'all to know, is she wearing her man's

Oh, oh, oh!

And I'm living. Oh my gosh y'all.

My girl, Cece, is up here wearing sports jeans,

but I think that's Russell's number.

I'm getting the American football mixed with the glamor.

All right now, sister might have just did something, now.

Oh this is so exciting, I love Ciara y'all.

Way back to One, Two, Step. Okay!

Oh! My girl!

I need you to know!

Okay! We got Cece in the building.

You know Ciara. Now, I'm seeing the number 3.

I know that's, that's Russell's number.

So, I'm seeing American football, glamor, like,

is that the connection with this theme tonight?

You know what, I am inspired by my husband's

color rushed jersey's, of course, three's in the building.

And I'm also rocking his Superbowl ring.

Oh my gosh, girl. Yes!

Now who designed this masterpiece?

Peter Dundas, he's over here somewhere.

But Peter Dundas,

this is like our third MET together.

He was inspired by Geoffrey Beene

Who has these like, iconic jersey inspired dresses.

So when he showed me the idea, I was like yes, this is it.

Yes.

Right away.

Now, you seem, to me, are one of our first, really,

this generation's fashion divas.

I mean you came from giving us that sporty,

you know One, Two, Step vibe.

And then gradually became this model-ess.

How has your relationship with fashion developed over

these years?

Oh my gosh, tremendously. Fashion is a big part of

how I express myself. And I feel like I've been

challenging myself. You know, you look at some of those

old photos, you're like, What was I thinking?

But I was expressing myself and I think that's

the beauty and power of fashion.

We have to continually express ourselves,

challenge ourselves. Sometimes I can get a little stuck.

And I'm like, I gotta push, and it's been really fun

experimenting with fashion.

[Keke] Oh I love that.

And I mean, the theme is In America, what does it mean

to you when you think about the fashion of America?

[Ciara] Oh the fashion of America is amazing. You know,

we have a lot of staple, and classic and iconic

moments and I think the cool thing about

American fashion is that there is so many different styles.

[Keke] Yeah, yeah.

You know, America's big, obviously.

And so, there's, like from the east coast,

you'll see a style, from New York, you'll see

a certain vibe. From Atlanta, you're gonna see

a certain kind of vibe. Like there's so many

different waves that you get from different cultures

in America, so, I appreciate it.

And I'm American.

Yes, and I'm a proud American too.

And Ciara, I just got to let you know,

every time I see you, I admire you

and you inspire me so much and it's so beautiful to see

you know, you growing, and your family.

It's just really wonderful, the representation.

Let's get some of these fan comments,

'cause I know they want to say something to you.

Ciara, this is so stunning, love it!

We already know.

Who else we got?

Thank you.

We got some more?

We got some more?

We got no more?

They probably, done messed up on the prompter, girl.

Where are the tweets at?

Okay, there were so many, we can't even put them up.

We love that love. We'll see you inside.

You are amazing.

Oh!

And keep on keeping us laughing, Keke keeps us laughing.

You all know, I'm too goofy for my own self.

It's a good show, keep it going.

Thank you, thank you. I'll see you inside.

Who doesn't love Ciara, child?

Okay.

[Mindy] You look gorgeous.

[Keke] Oh, thank you, Mindy.

Oh my gosh, let me talk to-

Bye, bye, Mindy, bye!

Oh girl, we got my girls Chloe and Halle.

Now Halle, I didn't know if we were going to get you.

Because, I'm like, is my girl filming?

I didn't know if you were still filming.

You know, we haven't seen Halle, 'cause she been working.

And Chloe, last night you killed it at the VMAs.

And I just love how you take your inspirations,

like that intro, how you take that gothic-esq vibe

that energy, I mean how do you harness that?

How do you come up with that style?

Oh wow!

Both of you, 'cause you guys share that.

Yeah, I think it's really definitely in both of us.

And I think all of the passion and fear that I had

and the nervousness, I just got all out in that stage

and I was able to be myself and every pent up emotion

I got to release it and it was very therapeutic for me.

And I was so happy that people got to see me in that way.

And I was so happy to have Halle up there with me

on the stage presenting, like I almost cried before

the performance began. So I'm just so happy to be here

tonight together. It's our very first MET

and it's just been a really great weekend.

New York has treated us so well and I'm just really happy.

Well I hope you know, we all see it for you.

It was no surprise, seeing your level of performance

up there, so just keep on doing everything,

'cause you're giving us the life we're asking for.

Oh my gosh thank you.

Now Halle, you've just come off filming,

how has it been getting reaccumulated.

I know it can be a lot when you're just zoned in

on something, how's it to be out tonight and to be going

to all these shows now?

Girl, it feels good to be out.

I mean yeah, it was a long time. I was filming

and I was just such in one zone, so now that I'm home,

I'm like, oh my gosh, I get to be with my sister again,

do things together again. So I'm just really grateful

and enjoying every moment.

[Keke] And who designed these looks. I gotta ask that?

[Chloe] Rodarte. We're wearing two sister designers.

And it's so fun that we are sisters wearing sisters.

And it's all inspired, Halle's inspired by Tina Turner

with this.

I knew it was Tina Turner, I could tell with the shake,

honey.

Shake, shake.

Yeah!

And this is all about Hollywood sirens. Bloop bloop!

Simple, fun and I'm just really happy. I feel pretty.

I love it. You know, Halle, you had did a tweet

the other day, somebody was saying you were the

annoying little sister, that goes everywhere

with her sister, and you were like, that is me.

That's me too, girl!

Shout out to my big sister L'Oreal. Yes!

Well you guys look fabulous. Love everything you do.

And enjoy. And Imma see you inside.

Yes, see you girl. Good to see you too.

You guys, I remember seeing Chloe back in the day

when I'd do Medea, she was so little.

I didn't get a chance to tell her that,

but back in the day, she was like six, seven

on the Medea sets working as an actress

and I would, to see how she how she's grown,

it's incredible, it really is.

Sienna Miller and Emily Blunt.

Oh my gosh. Sienna Miller and Emily Blunt.

What do I owe this honor?

Oh my gosh. I gotta tell you, I'm one of your biggest fans.

Oh thank you!

Oh yes, I am!

Are you? She said, Are you?

How are you women tonight, please tell me.

Are you boiling in your coat?

Quite hot, quite hot in the fur.

Yeah, but you got to keep it because it gives a vibe.

Just drape it off, just drape it behind you.

Who are you two wearing? And how did you come to this,

you know, this In America expression of fashion?

Oh thank you, thank you girls. Thank you.

I love how you guys are sandwiching me in.

Yes.

[laughter]

So who designed this look?

This is Gucci.

I like how you said that very humbly.

But it's like, Gucci.

It's Gucci.

It's like, it's Gucci.

And you, Emily?

This is Miu Miu.

Oh!

Oh.

And so what does In America, what does that mean

to you guys when it comes to fashion?

I mean I love all of the kind of opulence and boldness.

It's like bold, it's like old Hollywood sort of

madness a bit. I love all the flare of madness

over here with fashion, it's so fun.

I love it too.

And you Sienna?

To me, it's sort of like decadent

and I feel like a sort of Vegas barbie tonight.

My gosh, well I gotta tell you guys,

I mean, I know for a while, we were never get over here,

you guys are from England?

[Sienna] I am.

England. So we got you back over here now.

How are you feeling to be out and about in America.

You know, at one of our first biggest events?

I mean it's really cool, it sort of feels a robust step

back after.

Right, right, after everything we've been through.

Yeah, I'm a little overwhelmed, if I'm really honest.

We all are.

I have to bring this and I'm like,

what does that look like?

I know, I know, I know.

Let's go to some fan comments quickly, 'cause I know,

they want to say something to you two.

Oh wow.

Emily Blunt, I'm out of breath.

You almost killed somebody. They outta breath.

Start breathing again love.

Emily Blunt just give me some of your endless beauty.

Yes.

Oh Sienna, you're one to talk.

Emily Blunt is so perfect, oh my god,

she looks absolutely flawless. She's killing it.

Stop it, now why are y'all doing that to my friend,

Sienna. Stop playing around.

You guys look gorgeous, so good to see you both.

Enjoy, enjoy.

Yes.

So right now, we gotta check in with the polls.

I know you guys think, I'm not thinking about you,

but I am. Oh, oh, oh, oh wait a minute.

We gotta say bye to the polls because my girl Erykah

and my boy Uzi is here. Oh my gosh.

Now Uzi, you are always causing great fashion trouble.

And of course Erykah, you know, you're an icon of fashion.

So I'm going to ask you Uzi, tonight the theme is

In America, what does that mean to you?

It means a lot to me, man. You know, Tom, you know,

Tom is an American designer, Tom Brown, so you know.

Yes!

You already know I had to come show up,

and do it the right way.

Come on now, you always give us that look.

And Erykah, is this Tom Brown as well.

It is, the great American designer, Tom Brown,

who is a passionate intellect.

He is, well I'll tell you about this. He wanted to do a

spin on the tuxedo for the Fall 20/21 line,

so I think he really...

[Uzi] And he picked the right people to do it.

Oh no, he definitely did.

He picked us to do it, and this is super ancient

futuristic, what you think?

Oh it absolutely is. I would expect nothing less.

Oh he driven. He drippin'.

Come on, Erykah, come on, Erykah.

Now both of y'all are know for ya'lls fashion

and the connection it has to ya'lls music.

I ain't about to play with them.

Now let me get into the music video, then.

If we're gonna do a music video, all you had to say

was we're gonna do a music video.

Y'all both are know for ya'lls fashion and it's connection

to you music. Why is fashion, you think, so important?

Or has been so important to you?

I think it's part of the whole vision.

You know for what you're creating. For what I'm creating

anyway, you know the whole look, the feel, the smell,

the taste. It's a, I think fashion and music for me

is my talisman. It's the kind of thing, that like,

makes me feel like me.

[Keke] Yeah, and you always flirt with femineity,

masculinity, in your fashion, would you say

that's a little bit of a statement for you?

I don't know, that's my everyday life.

I don't even mean it. I'm just doing it.

Like I don't even mean it. You know me, brah.

I already know you from way back.

It's good to see you.

Oh my girl, Tee Tee.

Tee Tee, you gonna be, what, you're gonna come up here

and hang with us?

Come on Tee, we got the whole crew up here, now.

Hey! I like how we gone turn it into a barbecue.

Y'all we're at the barbecue.

I heard about that. We got your doula, we got your

doula up here. We got the whole cook out family here.

Please show us the body and the look,

because you know you're always killing it.

Who designed this? And how does it connect to

American fashion for you?

Prada, you know. When I heard, you know,

America and fashion. You know, I'm a New York girl.

You know, so the first thing I thought was a rose in

Harlem, the different statues when you come,

so I kind of did a little drape.

Don't pay attention to my ankles,

I got small ankles, okay.

Look at the little drappy drape.

That's how it's suppose to fit, but I kept stepping

on the bottom of the dress, so that how you get all that

crack back there.

Girl, I got the crack thing going too. I was sweating.

Earlier, it was a dramatic crack and everybody was like,

that crack ain't suppose to be like that.

Now everybody sees how amazing of a mom you are.

Always with Juney and the newest little one.

So when you have to come out to these crazy events

and have to get all glamorous, is it exciting

or is it hard to leave the family behind?

It's not hard, they have the hotel.

It aint hard, they at the hotel.

I take my babies with me everywhere

and you know Juney is a little stalker, she like,

Can I get in the van with you?

Yes, Juney is my girl, I feel like she's my twin

for some reason.

No for real, she's literally like a little you.

I'm like, it's just so much personality, like so much

magic, I'm like okay.

Now where my boy, Iman, at?

Y'all usually all

He's doing Dancing With the Stars.

Oh my gosh. I love seeing y'all together.

Two peas in a pod. Y'all really the same person.

That's like, that's really like homie, lover, friend,

everything, husband, boom, boom, boom, boom.

Now go ahead and get it now. I ain't gonna hold you.

'Cause you know I can talk to you for years.

They got food in there. So I'll see you in a minute.

Alright baby.

Enjoy babe.

Thank you.

Oh! I love her, I love Teyana.

Good peoples. Very good peoples.

Hey Rita, hey Rita.

Oh my gosh! Y'all know who I got.

The fashion diva herself.

Yes we are live.

We got the- Yes, work it.

She's giving you life, she's giving you everything

you need. Oh! Yes!

Rita!

Actually I do need a glass of water.

It's very hot out here.

We keep telling them that, but they don't know,

but it's very hot.

I know!

Yes now, now, Rita, who are you wearing tonight?

Who designed this look?

This is Prada, and it's just you know,

Missus Prada herself is -

Show them the bag real quick, 'cause I don't think

they get it. Now get it.

It all matches.

It's very fabulous.

Taika is just- oh I just saw you in the background.

[Keke] Oh are you going to join us?

Say hi to Vogue.

Hi Vogue, hi Vogue.

I just, I just going to- hey!

Now this is your amazing date tonight

and you look fabulous, now wait a minute.

What is this? I don't even know if I should touch it.

It's a here, if you open this up.

Oh it actually does open up.

Oh it does.

You don't want to ask me.

We had no idea.

And I loved you in Free Guys.

You were like annoyingly amazing and hilarious.

Annoying. That's my thing. Annoying.

[Keke] I loved your character, you're so fabulous.

Now who are you wearing?

And how does this tie into- Oh Prada as well.

Oh my gosh, now what does, In America fashion

mean to you two?

[Rita] Oh it's such an amazing opportunity to like,

pay respect to the history, I think.

And for me, I felt like I really wanted to make

the most of the glamor that America had to offer,

you know, from all over the years.

And so, that's why I just chose, you know,

diamonds and shiney and shine, shine, shine, shine.

Yes, and you?

Me? I mean, I'm her date.

Yes.

You know, and I just, I mean I really think this is chic

and nice and she just compliments what she's uh-

Well he is looking great.

I'm here to support.

[Keke] Yes, but I mean you also uphold. You're not just

support, you also, you're giving us

that whole pair. You do!

So tonight's MET Gala, I mean, we missed the last one,

so we're back again. How does it feel to be back?

Is there anything you're particularly excited about?

[Rita] I'm just excited to see everyone again.

And see all the dresses and also, I missed glamor.

You know, I missed seeing.

[Keke] I know! I mean, you're a glamor girl.

[Rita] Thank you! I love a red carpet.

I love getting dressed up. I just missed seeing the,

I guess the fantasy of it all.

So I'm very happy that we're back again.

And very safe and I'm just looking forward to the

rest of the night!

Me too! Let's go, go to a comment real quick,

'cause I know the kids want to say something to you.

Oh!

Rita Ora, oh my gosh, you look so stunning girl.

Thank you so much.

I'm not in there, that's weird, but-

[Keke laughs]

What else do we got?

Rita Ora? Question mark, question mark.

Just wow, obsessed.

What is it? Is it just the? Maybe I need to give you

the shoulder.

Well go ahead you rascals. I'll see you inside.

Enjoy.

You look amazing.

Thank you baby!

Let me know if you get anymore comments, but-

They were actually asking about you.

Suni Lee! How are you?

Oh my gosh! This look! Honey, you look so fabulous.

Oh wow, so tell me, who designed this look

and how does it tie in to our theme, In America?

Sukeina designed this dress for me.

And they basically represent bright light.

And that's what I wanted to put in to the dress,

because I just went to the Olympics.

And won the gold medal.

Come on! Come on! Flex!

Coming from the gold medal, so that's just where

I got the inspiration from, and they really

brought it to life.

[Keke] Oh! Now is this your first, second, third,

MET Gala?

[Suni] This is my first.

[Keke] My first too, love.

So what are you most excited about tonight?

Um, I think just meeting a lot of people

and just, the experience as well.

This is so different than anything I've ever done.

And it's just crazy being here.

No yeah, it is and it's almost overwhelming

but it's like cool at the same time.

Yes! Yes. Well I can't wait to see you inside.

And I hope you have a wonderful time.

Thank you.

Thank you.

You're like, where are my people at? Where are my team at?

Right! There they are.

Hey! Hailey!

Y'all know who we got.

We're getting, um. Hey Hailey!

What's up Justin?

You guys look like a pair. Obviously, beautiful.

Now tell me, who designed these looks tonight?

This is YSL.

[Keke] Oh!

And this is La Maison Drew which is a branch off of

Drew House, which is a brand that me and brother

started, it's called Drew House.

Oh, I know what Drew House is.

'Cause all the kids is wearing it.

So now you've elevated and you've brought us this

kind of chic, sophisticated version.

What does it mean to be out tonight?

'Cause you guys are always very low key.

So what made you say, Let me step out

to the MET Gala?

I feel like the MET is always just a really cool night

to celebrate fashion and both of us love fashion

and we love being able to get dressed up

and collaborate with cool designers

and you know, for him to be able to come up

with this and debut this really cool suit.

So it's really just going to be a fun night.

Yes, and I mean Justin, you've really been an icon

when it comes to looks. From your hair to just making

fashion statements. How has your idea of fashion

evolved over the time, from since you were a kid,

to now being a grown man?

That's a great question and I think,

as I become more of an adult, I think things just start to

evolve and change and become more grown up, I think.

I'm married now, so I think, things just become more

adult, I guess.

Yeah. And it catches up before you know it.

It's like after a couple of parties

you need to go back home.

Yes, now Hailey, what does In America fashion mean to you?

I think for me, like, what the inspiration was

for my look, for the hair, for the makeup

was just, like timeless American beauty.

Looking back on,

just the Grace Kelly's of the world, inspired by that.

And I feel in general that you show that

in a very modern way. It feels very much aligned.

Yeah you do!

It's wonderful to see you guys, always.

Enjoy.

Wait a minute. Let me get one fan comment.

Ryan, I love you.

Oh wait a minute. We got a fan.

You know it's a fashion event when the Biebers arrive.

Oh I'll take it. That's it.

They said it. Enjoy your night, guys.

Yes! Love you.

Y'all know JB was on TJVP. So it's like a little

like reunion.

Oh my gosh!

My girl!

It's so good- first of all I have to tell you,

Me and Jordan gag about you all day.

And now obviously you guys did Us together.

I know, I'm so jealous of you.

Yes, I get to finally work with him.

So obviously, you're a fashion diva. You're known

for fashion. This year's theme is In America.

What did you kind of represent, tonight?

We were thinking about how America has made

denim so popular so my dress is made out of denim.

And Versace and they had a couture collection in the 90s,

so we particularly inspired by that.

And then my hair over here is inspired by the artwork

of Lauren O'Susan.

Oh I love that. Now Lupita, you are known,

like I said for fashion.

You know when you came into the scene,

that's really what you represented.

What does that mean for you, when it comes to

colliding that with your art as an actress?

Well I think it's another form of expression

and this is more of a representation of me

and my whimsy, whereas when you're acting,

and you're taking on someone else's circumstances.

So this feels like an expression of myself.

Oh I love that. And of course, we're back this year

with the MET Gala, we didn't have it last year.

You've come many times, how does it feel to be back

this time around, is it different?

It is different. I've had hiatus. So I feel refueled.

And like, I feel fresh and it's been fun not to dress up

for a long time and just wear onesies and slacks.

But it's nice to get dressed up again.

Well you look fabulous. It's always good to see you.

Enjoy the night. And I can't wait to see you in there.

Thank you.

Yes.

Good to see you!

Oh, I love Lupita. And she's so right about the jeans.

You know that brought me back to?

That brought me back to that Britney and Justin look

from way back when.

Don't act like y'all didn't like it.

It was good for that era.

My girl, J.Lo is in the building.

I just live for how she serves.

Yes!

And Olivia Rodrigo and Kacey Musgraves.

Oh my gosh, wait a minute.

Let's make sure we get your guyses looks in there.

'Cause you are giving two different serves.

Okay, so let's walk through it.

You let me know, who designed this look, and what was your,

and how did you interpret this as In America fashion?

Okay, well it's Ralph Lauren, so who's more American?

Hello, Mr. America. I'm also kind of a horse girl,

to be honest, so you know, bringing some equestrian flare.

I'm also like, I just need to be comfortable,

like I just need to , you know, post COVID,

I'm like, I've been in sweats and slides this whole time.

So I'm like. I just want to be comfortable. But anyway.

And you Olivia?

Yeah! This is Saint Laurent.

I personally love, like, American punk music

and I think Saint Laurent does a really good job

of making like punk rock feminine,

and so that's what I was kind of going for tonight.

Now what does it mean to be here at the MET Gala

tonight, I mean, 'cause things have been crazy

these last couple of years, you guys.

So, is it exciting, overwhelming?

What's the vibe?

All of the above, I think.

You know, yeah, I mean, you know, you also have to come

here by yourself. Usually you have your team,

your people around you.

Very true, she's giving you insider's scoop.

So it's like, it's kind of interesting to go it alone,

in a situation like this, as kind of, I can be kind of a

introvert, so I don't know how to feel,

but it's kind of overwhelming.

What about you?

Same. I just feel so grateful to be here altogether.

Also, it's such a blessing, so yeah, it's super exciting.

Oh. I love it. Well let's enjoy the night.

I can't wait catch up with you inside.

And I also can't wait to just, I keep saying,

see what's inside.

I know! I know! I mean, there's loads of surprises.

I'm excited for that, and honestly I'm gonna eat.

And yeah, we all keep saying, We're all hungry!

It's okay, it's honest. Thank you, guys.

I'll see you later.

Congrats also on everything. Both of you.

Thank you so much, I love you.

Oh I love you too, girl!

Oh there's a lot of love. There's a lot of love.

The night is still young kids.

That's why I need you guys to know.

We're just really getting into it.

I know we already done seen some great people already.

But just understand, that it is going to continue

and continue and continue.

We have the fashion icon, himself. Pharrell Williams.

Pharrell! Man. I feel like this is my first time meeting

you, it's so wonderful to meet you. I'm such a huge fan,

obviously. Please tell me about this look tonight.

Who designed it and why does it represent American fashion?

It's Chanel.

Oh! Oh! Drop that bomb real quick.

No, yeah, it's Chanel.

And by Karl Lagerfeld.

Oh my gosh. Incredible.

Now, I gotta ask you, who are some of your fashion icons?

Because you are so manys. I mean for sophistication,

to street style. So who's somebody that really inspired

you growing up?

Uh, well growing up was different. It was like skaters.

You know. But you know, I think once I've learned about

fashion and figured that I had my own sort of taste buds

I started to think about like Comme des Garcons

and of course Chanel, and you know,

thinking about them and all the stuff we've been able to do

like that's just been, like, inspiring me over and over

and over again. And like, my cup runeth over.

I learned so much from the house.

Yeah, and what does fashion mean to you?

Because I feel like, it's also been so much a part of your

music and what we've come to know you as

and you representing it. What is that love

that you share with it?

It's just like, um, self expression you know,

it's the way you express yourself.

You know. Whether you are or what not you wear

it says a whole lot about what you're thinking

and feeling.

Oh! I'm going to have to take that a count next time

I wear something crazy, love.

Well I thank you so much, Pharrell.

It was wonderful to meet you.

You look fabulous as usual. I see you inside.

[Pharrell] Thank you.

[Keke] Yes. Thank you. And your lovely date as well.

[chill music]

[chill music]

[chill music]

It's nice to meet you as well. Keke.

Halle, it's wonderful to meet you. Enjoy your night.

Stay safe.

Absolutely.

Allyson. The Olympian herself.

Oh look at all of this!

Honey, this is.

[kisses]

I have to give you the air kisses

'cause this is what this vibe is giving me.

Who are you wearing? But most importantly,

how did you come up with this design to express

In America fashion tonight?

Yeah, this is Benny Couture

by Kim Jones and I just let Jason Bold,

my stylist have full reign and yes,

and I just wanted to enjoy the experience

and all the drama that the MET is.

And so, yeah.

And so, what does it mean for you to come out

because obviously, you know, you're an amazing

athlete, you know, you work, sports, athleticism.

So when you get to these glamor nights what's kind of

the excitement for you?

Oh it's such a different world. So I just want to

take it all in. You know, it's such a new experience.

And so, I'm just like, I'm glad to be here.

Oh yes. Now the theme is In America,

what does that really mean to you?

I know it's a loaded question, but what comes to mind?

Yeah, you know, I think it's about

celebrating the heritage and you know,

the designs and all of that and so,

obviously as an athlete who represents America

you know, I understand that and I take pride in it.

And obviously there's things that we have to do

to move forward, but you know, I think tonight

is about celebrating.

I love that. I love how you put that.

There's somethings we need to move forward

but also let's celebrate what we do have.

It's a great outlook. Thank you so much Allyson.

You look fabulous.

Thanks love!

[fun music]

Simone, you're so teeny, mama.

I have never felt so tall in my life.

You're making me feel good.

Please tell me what, who, who designed this look?

Yes.

And how does it represent American fashion for you?

For me, it has the mobility, the flexibility.

From mat to MET, and so it's just, it's beautiful.

And Aria did it. The designer, they're just,

they're right here.

I love it.

Thank you.

Now how many pounds is it?

Because I heard you saying something about the weight of it.

Yeah it's eighty-eight pounds.

Girl! You are strong.

I'm gonna need that whole work out regime.

See what's going on? She got some men

carrying this dress up. That's a real fashion diva for you.

So tonight the theme is In America. I mean I know it's

it can mean so many different things, but what does it mean

to you?

Just having so much pride, coming out here,

representing Black girl magic, it's been fun.

Is there anything in particular that you're excited about

seeing tonight?

I don't know. I've never been to the MET,

so I'm kind of lost, but I'm really excited to just

be here in general.

Oh yes, same here girl. It's my first time as well.

You really look fabulous and it's so good

to finally meet you, too. Yeah.

God bless you.

[Simone] You too.

[Keke] Ya! Love you too, boo!

[Simone] I don't want to knock you over.

[Keke] I'm about to move back. She said move back.

Move back, back. Yes!

Oh I love you too, honey.

[fun music]

[fun music]

[fun music]

[fun music]

[fun music]

[fun music]

[fun music]

[fun music]

My girl, Gigi. My girl. Oh, oh. [laughs]

Yes! Gigi!

First of all, the shadow, the hair, the dress.

Give me the details. Who designed this

and how does it tap into the American fashion theme?

I'm wearing Prada, and Mrs. Prada I think always

celebrates the most quality, simple, simply made things.

Absolutely.

And I think that this dress really celebrates

tapping into keeping it simple,

keeping it quality and Prada is always that.

She's Italian, but-

She's Italian, but she still gets that.

You know what, I think my favorites simple,

American fashion statement is denim.

You know I think-

Lupita tapped into that tonight.

But a lot of what I think, American designers

do what they do so beautifully down to the bone, and...

[Keke] You're obviously a lover of fashion.

You are a model, what does being back at the MET

this year, mean to you?

Especially as not having the one last year?

[Gigi] Well I think that fashion week as a whole

I really, enjoyed on a new, with a new appreciation.

And just being able to see everyone again.

And have the time back stage to catch up and really

talk to people. And there is less press and people

with COVID so I've really been able to see everyone.

And I think that's what will be nice about the MET

tonight. It's like a good size and I'm just happy to

see everyone. I'm happy to see create, creativity.

And you're a mama, now.

So I mean, what was there any anxiety coming in tonight,

or excitement? I mean I know you leave your babe,

but it's also maybe fun to get a moment away.

What was that feeling like?

I mean she's one next week. And I just feel like

I've been on mama duty, I've been at the farm

with her everyday and like, in my sweatpants

and like, in our matching messy buns.

So, I feel like tonight, I'm showing her

what it means to dress up and-

[Keke] And have balance!

[Gigi] Own it, and have balance and, yeah,

and finding that in your life is when you really feel

like you've stepped into womanhood and finding your

boundaries, learning how to manage all of that

is when you feel your best, so.

I love you for saying that, 'cause there's a lot of moms

out there that probably feel guilty sometimes

from going out and stepping out.

But you, you can do both and you gotta have both.

So I love that. Thank you so much.

It's so good to see you too, babe.

I was watching you in the car to keep my nerves down.

Oh girl, you know I got your back. See ya inside.

Sharon Stone.

People don't know we're old friends.

It's good to see you, again.

How are you?

It's so good, it's so good to see you.

So pretty.

Oh my gosh, you look lovely.

I mean, please tell me who designed this look?

What, what, how did you tap into In America fashion

this year?

Tom Brown designed my look.

And I think he, well I like the look very much

I, he designed it from a dressed he loved

that his mother had, and, in the 60s.

And his mother, Bernice, was a lawyer,

as was his father, as are his other six siblings.

Oh my gosh.

So he, this is a tribute to his mother

I love that.

I love it too.

And it's from that Camelot period in American history.

And I think that my cape that I had on earlier,

was a little bit Darth Vader.

[laughs] Now you are known for creating so many iconic

fashion trends. How does that feel to you,

especially with this theme today?

Why, I have never thought of myself that way so...

Oh come on, so many people recreate so many of your looks

I think they recreate looks that wonderful,

innovative fashion designer and film have made for me

and the characters that I played.

Yeah, well, everybody can't wear them.

And you did them with style and grace.

Oh please, it's the truth. It's so wonderful to have you

and I can't wait to see you inside.

You look lovely.

You too. Thank you, bye, bye.

Okay! Hello Camila.

What's up girlfriend?

First of all, congratulations, Cinderella.

First of all, I love you!

Oh you know I love you too, girl.

You are so funny and amazing.

Oh my gosh. Please, Shawn! Come up here, with your girl.

Can I get on that side, 'cause you know that's my

good side?

Of course, go ahead girl! Go ahead, I'll be in the middle

of you too. You look amazing too.

You guys are feeling really connected.

Oh you can feel that energy, right? Right?

Okay, so I need to know, who designed this look?

And were you guys trying to match?

Were you guys worried about that?

We were, I mean, for a second, I was like

are we going to match? Does it matter?

I think we were so like, Michael Kors.

Michael Kors for you?

For both of us.

For both of you.

Yeah.

He's the man. I think at first we were like,

caught up in how we were going to look

and we were like, wait a second,

are we going to be like one in yellow and one in

freaking, like a purple? I don't know.

Even though this shows the range and diversity of

Michael Kors, I feel like you guys are very much

in tune with it.

Yeah, I think, I think that honestly,

as just as personalities too. I feel like,

I don't know why, I was worried, for a second. [laughs]

[Camila] I was like, what are you wearing?

I was like, I'm gonna be wearing lot of big jewels.

It's so funny, because I'm sure everybody at home

just assumes, oh you know, cause you're together,

you work together, but it's very different sometimes.

You know, even though you're in the same industry

you both have different teams and do your own thing.

Totally, and different looks, yeah.

So what does, In America fashion mean to you?

Well, I think, with Michael Kors,

I think that, you know, he's one of the people

that, you know, wasn't just like referencing Studio 54

like, he lived it, and that's the whole 70s, like

Studio 54, like chic, like vibe.

And what about you Shawn?

I don't know, I feel like right now,

American fashion is like, this sense of duality

which is like, letting out my darker side, you know.

And everyone kind of showing both sides, I fee like,

for myself, for years, I never really kind of like dug

into this kind of...

Well I was just going to say, when you spoke on

duality, let's talk about the evolution of Shawn Mendes.

Because, I mean starting from the Vine days to now

who you are today, how has fashion played a part

in your self evolution?

I think a lot of it is freedom to kind of

express yourself, but, and then there's another part

that is new to me which is like, expressing

someone you want to be for a day,

which I think is important, yeah.

Come on, I almost tried to get him to take that jacket off

down there. I was like take it off, take it off.

He's like, nah.

You don't want the girls to see what you see at home.

Let's get outta here before it gets to hot.

It's fine, it's okay.

Well thank you both, I love seeing you.

And congratulations again, I can't wait to watch

Cinderella.

You know what, you know what I did the other day?

I made a Tik Tok to, I don't know who this man is,

I don't, I don't know this man. Did you see that Tik Tok?

I can not. I love you both. Enjoy tonight,

and I'll see y'all in there, we're gonna get giggy with it.

Okay, bye, bye. Bye Bye.

Oh I love it, I love it.

[energetic music]

[energetic music]

[energetic music]

[energetic music]

[energetic music]

[energetic music]

[energetic music]

[energetic music]

[energetic music]

Oh my gosh, Rosalía. First of all, I have to let you know,

all of your looks in your day to day life,

in these music videos, miss mamas.

It's giving me all the things and diversity that I'm

looking for, so I have to let you know that.

Then secondly, let's get into this look tonight.

Now who designed this and how does this fit into our

In American fashion theme.

Well this is designed by Rick Owens, yes.

Rick Owens.

Rick Owens, I know to say Rick, but for me

it's very difficult and I always say like, Rick.

I prefer your way.

[both laugh]

It's very sexy.

And it's inspired in Mount Manila, which is what

you call pillar in Spain.

Yes.

You know and it's a traditional piece, that I love.

So you can see all the fringes. I don't know if you can see.

[Keke] Yes I can, see the fringes.

[Rosalía] Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, so there's all these

fringes inspired in that.

Oh I love it. Now what does, In America fashion mean

to you?

Well, I celebrated that there's so much

beautiful amazing designers and Rick is my favorite

that's why today I chose to be dressed by Rick.

And I really celebrate it and I'm really happy to be here.

This is the first time, and it's my first time.

It's my first time too! You look lovely.

And I love your energy. I can't wait to hang out with you

inside.

Let's do it, yeah.

Thank you so much, enjoy, your night. Yes.

Oh so sweet.

Oh, oh, oh, oh.

We have Michael Kors himself.

And the Regina King.

Oh my gosh!

My girl!

It's so wonderful to see you

[kisses]

And wonderful to meet you, Mike.

Okay, so let's talk about this.

How did you come up with this look tonight?

And you know, how did it tie into the storytelling

of In America's fashion?

Well, the strong, smart, talented.

You make sure he's on the camera.

Yeah, right, make sure-

And glamorous and, and, and you know what,

and talking about tailoring, and riffing on something

that's, you know, boyish but glamorous at the same time.

These are definitely not your dad's pinstripes, but.

Okay, I love masculine and feminine, the juxtaposition

is always beautiful. Regina, you're fabulous.

I mean, everything that you do, being here tonight,

what did it mean to you? I mean,

we missed the last MET Gala, we've got this one now.

It means a lot because it's American fashion, you know,

to me, I'm kind of like, why did it take so long

to finally have this be the theme?

So I'm excited that for it to be the first one back,

for it to be American fashion, and I get to be with

Michael, you know, Michael Kors is a name

I've never not known, you know what I mean?

I was trying to wear Michael Kors when I was 12, 13, girl,

so let's not get it twisted.

Well you guys look beautiful. I don't want to hold up

too much of your time, 'cause I know

you want to get inside, but thank you so much.

It's always good to see you, my girl.

[kisses]

And wonderful meeting you. Yes!

Let's throw it back to my girl, Ilana with Whoopi!

[Keke] The one and only.

I am here with the OG badass, the one and only,

you are the original multi-hyphenate. EGOT!

Whoopi Goldberg. EGOT. I think, Whoopi Goldberg.

Give it up for, Whoopi Goldberg. Hello, Whoopi!

How are you doing, today?

I'm feeling pretty good. I mean I got a lot of hair.

I look like how I use to look, a long time ago.

And it's hot.

It's hot. Hey and it is, it's hot.

Who did you work with to design this look tonight?

Pierre Parlo from Valentino, who has done all these

amazing, this gorgeous dress right there.

I mean, he's no joke. He's no joke.

No joke. This is incredible, full of color,

strength, elegance.

And hot.

And hot. What does American fashion mean to you?

It means that anybody who has any sense of

who they are can be part of it.

And that's really the basics of what he's created.

Because, it's all of these little girls

looking like, where is couture? Couture is inside.

I love that, and also, I gotta say.

This is a fully vaxxed room tonight.

Could there be any more patriotic thing getting your

vaccination?

I don't think so, I think if you're not going to get

vaccinated, then you really gotta question

where you stand in the country.

That's right, thank you so much, Whoopi.

You look beautiful.

Thank you.

Love you too, mama. See ya.

See you soon.

Okay, feel good.

[Ilana] Okay, Keke, back to you.

I'm here with Charles Milton and I mean,

you are melting the house down.

You got that chest out. You giving us some life, honey.

Who designed this look?

Tom Brown designed this look. Yes.

And so Tom Brown designed this look.

What does it mean to, I mean in American fashion,

obviously Tom Brown is an American fashion designer.

But what did that theme mean to you, tonight?

I just think very inclusive and just very simple

and elegant and that what it meant to me today.

Yes! And now, is this your first MET Gala, second, third.

This is my second one and I'm still sweating

like it's the first.

This is my first as well. You know people don't realize

it's a bit overwhelming, up here, so many things going on

and then you're here by yourself.

We can't come with nobody, y'all.

We gotta be by ourselves.

No, no, no.

Yeah.

Well tell me actually, what can I look forward to tonight?

Is there any little gags I should be expecting

and getting ready for?

I don't know, you tell me.

Well you're the one who's been here first, love.

No, no, you tell me.

You sound like a Gemini.

No.

What sign.

Capricorn.

Really? We're suppose to be a perfect match.

Really?

But you're giving me all of this, all of this

push back. [laughs]

Yes. Go inside, it's wonderful to meet you.

How are you?

Okay, yes, wonderful to meet you.

I have to let you know that me and Daniel Kaluuya

talk about you all the time.

He and I both are one, are two of your biggest fans.

I love Daniel so much. Wherever he is in the world,

doing incredible things, I love you so much.

He's my home boy.

I love you too. I love everything that you do.

All the way from writing to acting, you're incredible.

Please, tell me who designed this look

and how it ties into our American fashion theme.

This is Balenciaga. Yes very honored

to be a guest of theirs and the blue is kind of

like an hallmark to denim, which is American.

I also think the blue represents the blue on the flag.

Hmm. I love that. So what does it mean for you,

to be here tonight? Our first MET Gala back after a minute.

Right, you know, I haven't been to New York, itself,

in years. I haven't been here in years.

And it feels lovely to be back and there's this safe way

that we are kind of mingling and touching each other and -

Touch a little touch.

Well thank you so much for being here.

You look fabulous, and I can't wait to see you inside.

Alright, let throw it to Ilana.

You were like...

Okay, Keke, I am here, yeah, with Paloma Elsesser.

You are one of my favorite models.

You slay, Paloma, you slay all day.

How was your New York Fashion Week?

It was intense. I'm feeling a little tired.

My feet are bleeding, but I'm really happy to be here.

I feel like doing shows, supporting American designers

kind of culminates in what this MET Gala is all about.

You, you look so fire. You are dripping.

Tell me a little bit about this look.

Well I am wearing Zach Posen. Iconic American designer.

Yeah. And I'm wearing Anna Corey on my ears.

It's essentially a play on new American icon,

Hollywood glamor, with a bit of a freak.

Which is what I am.

That is you! Mama, and tell me about your hair

and makeup, too. This is just gorgeous.

It's kind of like this same motif.

It's like, how do we go classic, but like mess it up

a little bit, you know, like how do we add

so weird brush of this and then, you know,

just some a little messed up.

I'm loving it. I hope you get a foot massage

at the end of the night.

I have work tomorrow. But it's okay.

After tomorrow.

I'm so happy to be here. You look amazing.

Thank you, mama. Have a goodnight, I'll see you inside.

I'm with fashion girl herself, Cara Delevingne.

I mean, Cara.

And I'm with the wonderful Keke Palmer here.

Cara, you got to walk me through this look babe.

What does it mean, how does it tie in to our theme,

who designed it?

So it's Dior's Maria Grazia.

For me, for anyone who doesn't know what this word is,

you're going to have to look it up

'cause I'm not going to explain it right now.

But peg the patriarchy, you know,

it's about women empowerment, equality, gender equality,

but you know, it's a bit like, stick it to the man.

If anyone wants to look, yeah, look up the word.

Yeah, you know, I actually feel a lot of this

in your fashion, you're always doing that juxtaposition

and giving us that powerful but sexy.

But still, female, sexuality, female empowerment, yeah.

Well I see, I see Lewis Hamilton, edging up on us.

Come up and join this party, Lewis. Please!

You do too! First of all, I'm seeing this blouse

scenario dripping down but also within a suite.

What does this mean?

This is Kenneth Nicholson. I'm very, very grateful

to be here tonight, in the presence of beauty.

Some old friends, this is what its all about.

I know right, now what does this, how does this tie in

to the In American fashion theme, for you Lewis?

Well for me tonight, I'm really, really fortunate

Anna agreed to host my table and I brought four

incredible young Black talented designers

and so we got a great host of people tonight.

And it's just highlighting, beauty and excellence

and talent and...

Yeah, highlighting talent to be able to do that is,

as well as individual, yeah, exactly, individuality.

I love that. Individuality is definitely

very much American, so I think that is all in tune.

Well, I love seeing you guys tonight.

Enjoy, have a good time.

And it's great to meet you Lewis. Yes, Bye, bye.

Kehlani? Or Jason? Which one?

Both of you? Well you come together!

Ay! We got Jason Rembert and my girl, Kehlani.

Hi.

Okay. Jason. First of all Jason, also designed

Ilana's look, you guys, to remind y'all what's going on.

Please walk me through Kehlani's look.

How did it tap into American fashion?

What were you going with it?

Kehlani's suit is a signature suit

that we've been doing for the last two years

and we crystallized it, I have a goof friend

named Cameron Rose, who helped me crystallize it.

It's 70,000 crystals.

70,000. I'm just going to repeat that for y'all.

70,000 crystals. And Kehlani just wears it well.

And to me, Kehlani wearing a suit is

probably one of the most empowering thing

for myself, to empower this young lady to be

her best self, so.

Well Kehlani, you always have been able to

do that both, feminine, masculine.

What does it mean for you, tonight,

to be wearing this look?

I just love that I'm cozy and I feel good,

and I feel like, it's a testament to the fact

that he sees who I am.

Yeah

You know, he was like, look I'm going to come at you

with this idea, not necessarily straight going

for a dress, like I love the idea of a suit.

And I was like, you get me, you see me, so.

I think a lot of people look up to you for that.

What does that mean for you and how does that

kind of encourage your different fashion moves.

I mean really it just lets me know that

what people were to me when I was growing up

that they have someone, like the people that I had

looking up to. You know, I had Alicia Keys,

someone who was so tom boy, who made me feel

like, I can grow up and I can still be myself.

And I'm just glad that I show people

that they can be themselves.

Yes, okay, In American fashion. I gotta ask you this.

What does it mean to you?

Man, I mean. I have an incredible Black designer

right here standing in front of me at the MET Gala.

Like, that says enough.

Oh I love it, I love it.

Thank you both. You look great as well. Yes!

I'll see y'all inside. Bye K!

Oh we got Sha'Carri in the house?

Is that who we got?

I need you to come on up here, mama.

Girl! Come on dress! Down.

Oh my gosh, and how are you, love?

Wonderful to meet you. Keke, mice to meet you.

Okay, please, walk me through this look.

How did you come to design it and what does it mean

in terms of our theme tonight?

The rising phoenix. The color red.

And her being a Black woman, gotta champion that.

Absolutely. Definitely.

Oh my gosh, what doesn it mean, Sha'Carri.

You had an amazing year. So many great things going on.

Oh wait a minute, we've got up here, coming up here.

Alton Mason.

Oh Alton! Yes!

We did that shoot, honey. You're giving me

a different look tonight. I almost didn't recognize you.

This has to be MJ inspired.

Now. I'm sorry to have interrupted Sha'Carri,

'cause I really wanted to say, I mean,

you've had an amazing year, there's been so much going on.

Is it overwhelming, exciting to be here at the MET Gala

this year? What's your vibe?

A miss Keke, it's Sha'Carri.

Sha'Carri. Well you better correct me,

it ain't Sha'Carri, it's Sha'Carri. Yes!

Other than that, despite the entire year,

seeing the blessings that come from literally

pushing through, following in your faith

and believing and standing strong, all the way through,

it shows what you can gain no matter what you

present to the world or what your reality is.

So I'm blessed and honored.

And you know, also what we love, you know,

Sha'Carri, with you is, you dress down even when you're

running, you know what I'm saying.

Yes, you really, really, do.

And I think people, a lot of times, people don't

realize, you know, I mean, of course we have

Flo Jo, when we think about athlete with fashion

and glamor, but how much does that mean for you

when it comes to representing that as an athlete?

You know, it's a great part of who I am as an athlete.

I say if I look good, I feel good, I think,

Imma perform good. So if me looking good, literally,

if I don't look good, I'm going to the race, I'm like,

oh my gosh, like, my hair not straight,

my lashes not on. I'm like, wait a minute.

I'm not gonna worry about this race, right now.

[laughter]

It's all a part of who I am as an athlete.

I love that. I love that.

Now, Alton, please walk me through this look.

Who designed it and- Oh!

It's designed by the one and only...

Yes. TheOphilio. Yes, gang gang.

Come on work, gang, gang.

Now walk me through this design and how you came up

with this for the representation tonight.

We wanted to champion all the Black superheros, idols,

icons, right before us.

I mean, look at us. This is a new generation.

It is.

We're so proud and grateful to be on this stage.

I am too. I am so happy to have met you, as well.

We gotta get us a little something going on.

A little bit.

Okay! You guys look fabulous, wonderful to see you again.

And wonderful to meet you Sha'Carri.

[kisses]

Enjoy the night, guys. Yes!

Ah, ah! Wait a minute.

Is this my love, Law Roach.

La! Okay, you guys don't even know.

Me and Law go way back, first of all, we both from Chicago.

And Law, I mean, what you have done with fashion

and putting us on the map. When I look at Colin

I also see you, I mean, what you've been able to

pave the way for so many other, people like us,

to be in that very supreme fashion world.

To be here tonight.

Exactly, so what does it mean for you,

when you're thinking of In America, this theme tonight,

what does it mean for you?

You know, I think, America means so many different things

to so many different people, but I think it's

still a land of possibilities, right?

It's the country where anything is possible

if you work hard and you do the things that you know,

that are right, you be kind to people,

you treat people the way you want to be treated.

You can be anything you want to be.

Yes, it's so true. Now what inspired your vibe

for tonight?

I'm here with Lewis Hamilton, Lewis Hamilton

bought a table he decided to bring three emerging

African American, Black, male designers.

And so, I'm wearing Jason Rembert from LEA.

And the people usually have, they are sitting at his table,

he just wanted to use this platform to give somebody

else a platform and I'm just incredibly humbled

and grateful to be here with Lewis Hamilton tonight.

Oh my gosh, I love that. And I mean, what does it mean

to be back at the MET Gala? I mean we, last year

we didn't have it, you know, so what does it mean

this time around?

I mean, its just awesome to invited.

Awesome to be here. I mean it's fashion's biggest night.

And you know, we grew up dreaming to be here

and look at us now, you know?

Oh my gosh, I just, everything you do,

you're just killing it. If y'all ain't got into his

Tik Toks, he'd be shading from here, from left to right.

I live for you. I love you too babe.

Tell your mama I say hi!

You know! I'm down with my mama being,

my mama is too popular, y'all.

Hey mama, again.

Oh! MA, what's up girl?

Oh my god, it's so good to see you, we're sitting next

to each other.

I know.

I saw you a couple of days ago and you look incredible.

You look incredible. We were just together at Tory Burch

so we became low key besties, you know what I'm saying?

Yeah, we did, we got to chat.

Now, talk me through this look, babe.

Okay, so it's Vera Wang, who's an incredible American

designer, very excited.

We went kind of romantic. We did, she has an incredible

bridal collection, she did one that was all red,

so that is sort of a tribute to that.

I love it. Come on. Now, you're known for you looks,

your fashion, you have your own clothing line,

so what does In America fashion mean to you?

I don't know. I need to go inside and find out.

[Keke] Right, right, I'm right along with you.

I've been asking everybody that question.

That's why I'm here. Like I'm waiting to see.

But I think there's a lot of, I love this,

kind of a classic, like the Audrey Hepburn,

sort of influence, I feel like a lot of Jackie O.

Yes.

I think there's a lot of good stuff going on.

There definitely is. I mean, MET Gala is back again,

in the middle of fashion week. I mean,

how does that make you feel to be out and about?

I mean you got a family, were you scared to come back out?

I have a baby. It feels a little bizarre,

I'm not gonna lie. It feels like we're living in

a simulation, but it's really nice to see friends.

Well, Imma let you go enjoy your friends inside.

It's so wonderful to see you, again, girl.

You look beautiful.

Thank you, you too.

We still got millions of people coming in.

I was very dramatic with millions. But you get the point.

We have tones of more people coming, you guys.

The looks just don't stop.

I'm inspired everywhere I turn, I can't wait to see

the next person that comes in.

Oh we have Janet Mock in the house.

And we have a mutual friend, Ryan Murphy.

Oh yes.

Who you work with on Pose, yes Scream Queens, and Pose,

I mean obviously the fashion on that show was

absolutely incredible. Please walk me through your

amazing look tonight and who designed it?

It's Valentino Haute Couture, so Pierre Paolo.

My good friend, who's so good to me.

It's a collaboration with a Chinese designer

and it's basically on a fable about the moonlight

hitting the water.

What does In America fashion mean to you?

I mean, obviously, as an activist for the LGBTQ+

community, I feel like so much fashion is owed to that.

So how do you feel about being here tonight

representing American fashion?

You know it's all about for me, it's all about

the Black goddesses, those who came through,

on, the you know, the underground ballroom scene,

or those who hit the spotlight first, right?

You think about Lena Horne and Dorothy Dandridge.

And Diane Carol. You know just some of the icons

out there and just want to do them proud.

I always tell people, the first time that I saw

an anagagas is Paris is Burning.

So we have to shout out to our ballroom scene

that originated it all.

What it excites you about being here tonight?

We're back, we're, you know, so many beautiful faces again.

It's just hard won. You know, all that we've gone through

it's great to have a beautiful party in celebration

of artists and art, and one of the cultural institutions

that we need to save, right? So, something like the MET,

it's like yes, let's show up, let's show out

and let's do it right in safety.

Oh my gosh, I love it. Definitely in safety.

You're a vision tonight.

Enjoy tonight and I can't wait to see you inside.

Thank you, Keke!

Alright, you see I'm giving it to ya!

Yes!

Giggle honey!

Yes! Oh my gosh, lovely, lovely, lovely. Thank you.

Thank you.

Oh beautiful.

Oh honey.

Is my girl, Normani?

Hey sis! She's getting her last few photos.

She's going to come up and hang with us.

Oh my gosh, girl.

You look so good.

[kisses]

Now you had an amazing night last night

with you performance, tore the stage down

had everybody gagged with Teyana.

How does it feel to do a quick turn around

and already come up in here and slay the day?

I can't believe I'm here.

Like I've only dreamt of being at the MET Gala.

Girl, it was only a matter of time.

Valentino

Oh my gosh, Valentino designed this look.

What was the vision behind in the process

with this In America theme?

Black girl excellence. You know what I'm saying?

Like, yellow is our color, as you know.

Pops on dark skin and I just feel regal.

I feel like a queen, I'm just really, really blessed

and grateful to god to be here.

I'm excited, I can't contain myself.

Well I feel like with you, Normani, I feel like you're

really know for you fashion.

Really?

Absolutely, girl! You're always kill it.

You're glam, everything. I ain't lying. Ask the kids.

You always kill your looks.

How important is that when it comes to your music

and incorporating those worlds?

Well, I mean I feel like, music and fashion work

hand in hand, you know, both are like, very much

an expression and I'm especially very, very, shy.

You know, I have been ever since I was a little girl.

So for me fashion, is my outlet, music is outlet,

dance is my best language, and so that's how I communicate.

So In America, this is the fashion, this is the theme

tonight, we're at the MET Gala, it's your first time,

what are you expecting? Is there anything you're

excited about?

Sis, I'm excited for everything.

We're about to eat too? Right? There's a-

I ain't gonna hold you no more.

What's the food they got in there?

Girl, I want to see too.

So you let me know, send me a text

and let me know so I can wrap this up.

She's like, So I can wrap this up.

I love you girl. It's good to see you.

Yes and congrats on everything. Yes, of course.

Of course. Let's watch her as she walk away.

Oh, oh, oh. Okay! Okay!

Yes, oh! Everybody loves Normani because we know

she's always going to wear us out with a look.

It's always gonna be something that's gag worth.

Always.

Who do we got coming up the stairs?

Who do we got coming up the stairs?

Oh I can't have no drink.

They was trying to get me a little drink of water.

I'll be drinking some water on the side.

Oh wait a minute!

You!

Reunited and it oh so!

Keke, you have been, are you a super human superhero?

No, no, no, let's not even start, because what y'all

didn't know is that my girl with, can I tell them?

My girl had to breast pump in the back.

We're up here, we're doing it.

You know we're fighting for our life out here.

Sure, but you're a star that shoots off the planet Earth.

You are incredible. Oh my gosh.

We did it!

We damn did it.

We made magic.

We made casual conversation in the least casual of places.

And now, do we get to party?

Girl, we get to eat!

We get to eat!

We're gonna leave you guys with some shots,

you know we're not leaving you all hanging, okay.

No, no, no.

You know, we're going to party, we're going to eat.

But we're still, I'm telling y'all the truth.

They're talking in my ear.

They didn't have what was up here, up.

But Imma still serve it to you.

You know the truth is, Vogue.com, they got

extras, extras, extras. BTS, you gotta get it.

You got to get it.

Oh my god, Ms. Keke Palmer.

Stop it! You slay!

We're going to leave you with some shots,

inside of the MET Gala and show you the exhibition.

You guys are going to love it.

Thank you for hanging out with us.

Thank you, Vogue.

Thanks so much, Vogue.

Yes!

Have a good night everybody. Bye!

where you can catch an episode of Good Morning Vogue,

with special guests, Lewis Hamilton, oof!

Law Roach, it's happening right after this stream.

And we also want to say thank you to the

Metropolitan Museum of Art for another great year.

Yes we do. Thank you MET.

Thanks for watching, the 2021 MET Gala live.

And remember you can watch it all again

and catch all the highlights on Vogue.com.

Thank you, everybody!

Should we sing a little something. Give them

a little bang.

You know what, let's save that for the after party.

Okay, you're right.

[together] Goodnight everybody!

[chill music]

[chill music]

[chill music]

[chill music]

Good morning, Vogue. It's Chioma Nnadi here

with an episode that tells the story about a particularly

special table at the MET

hosted by Formula 1's superstar, Lewis Hamilton.

For Lewis, supporting Black creatives is especially

important, that's why this year he's invited,

three up and coming Black designers, including,

Kenneth Nicholson and Evan Thompson to join him.

Follow along with us as we talk to him about

these talented new names and how this fabulous table

came together.

[groovy music]

[groovy music]

[groovy music]

Hey!

How are you doing?

Good, how are you? How is all the prep going?

It's going really well.

I think it's going to be one of the most exciting

METs I've seen. This year is particularly special

with the focus on American fashion and so many

independent designers involved.

You're table in particular has a really special story.

And I would love for you to share how it came together.

I wanted to create a table that, around supporting

and celebrating, up and coming, young, Black designers.

And I mean, we're living in a time where diversity

and inclusion is so important and that's something

I'm fighting for in my industry.

And that's why I've started this foundation

and working within my sport to help improve diversity,

within my industry, but I realize that, that's very

similar within the fashion industry.

A lot of brands, young designers don't have the same

opportunities and so, that's really, what I

I wanted to support young and up and coming talent.

And the MET is the biggest fashion event of the year.

And this theme, I wanted to create something

that was meaningful, I wanted to take the opportunity

and, something that was start, and to spark a conversation.

So when people see us altogether,

they'll be asking and put these Black designers

at the top of people's minds, particularly

in the fashion community.

Evan Thompson is of the three designers

who will be joining Lewis Hamilton at the MET.

He's also one of ten finalists in this year's

CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund. Up until now,

everything about the competition has been over Zoom.

But this afternoon marks the first time that they'll

be doing an in person event, a champagne cocktails

celebrating New York Fashion Week.

Let's go in and join the party.

[chill music]

So we're here with Edvin Thompson from Theophilio

at the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund event.

What's your day been like? Tell us why today has been

important.

Today's important because we're here to toast

to the opening of New York Fashion Week for one again.

Definitely, but to really, you know, champion

in all of us the top ten finalist of the CFDA.

So tell me exactly how you felt when you got that invite.

From Lewis.

Yes.

To be at his table.

Yes, amazing. Amazing, meeting, literally was crying,

after I left. Being invited by Lewis to the MET

and just sharing the table with like, my peers,

people who I support. You know what I'm saying?

People who support me as well.

Like, eight Black men, also? Like that's phenomenal.

And I think the MET has never seen anything like that.

I'm so excited too.

The table is about creating opportunities

and access.
